HIGHRISE: Compare and Contrast Essay

Have you ever heard of the website 'HIGHRISE' before? If you hadn't click here to know what site this is about. My person is Durdane from Istanbul, Turkey. I chose this woman because my mom had been to Turkey and I want to know how it is to be living in Istanbul. Today I am writing about a compare and contrast essay. I will compare and contrast what we see out our window and our life in our hometown and place.

When Durdane looks out her window she sees gecekondu is all around her home. Gecekondu is a self-built squatter home. 65% of Istanbul residents live in self-built squatter district. She came here aged 15 after marrying and stayed here for 30years.

Ode to Seoul

My hometown is Seoul. I think GLPS camp is good but sometimes I miss my hometown Seoul. So I am writing an ode to Seoul.
Dear Seoul,
Oh how I miss you right now. Inside Gangwondo trapped inside a studious camp. But though the clear, white snow is wonderful and I made a lot of friends, it is nothing compared to your busy, playful, and loud self. You are so meaningful to me. Born with you Seoul, raised with you Seoul and just pure Seould person I am. Though you do not snow I have nothing to clean. Though you aren't peaceful, you are always filled with music and enjoy me and the energetic face seems so wonderful. I totally want to be with you this moment.

You have so many friends. In the whole Korea, you have the most friends and very getting along with them because they are so matching with you. Even though you have so many people that you can't remember all, I do hope that you could remember me. And those best friends help you a lot like cleaning up trash and setting up concerts and other enjoyable activity. I live in the center of you, the heart of you, and know a lot about you because of my pal, Han River. He tells me that you are such a kind one that a person must meet. Is this the reason of your popularity?

You have such beautiful places and loud music. How did you know my favorite hobby was listening to music? Therefore always the streets of you are filled with loud, sometimes mad music. You are purifing the souls of people. Everywhere inside you is filled with warm-hearted music. Also the delightful places and scenery that you create such as Namsan Tower, Chang Duk Goong, and the Han River. You are making popularity of your visual beauty and this is send to people all around the world and now even famous in the U.S.A. I especially adore the Namsan Tower. When in a clear day, it is totally tremendous and I could just smell the beauty. But at night! Oh how I love the flashing lights and the busy crowds. Your scenery could be one of the Top Five Best Scenery in Korea.

You contain half of my amazing activities. The firecracker show in Han River, the design contest, Seoul Station that leads to any city and things like that. Where does it comes from? Of course from the heart of Seoul. The activities still rings in my ears and the sight can be still scented from my clothes. Lights, cameras, action! Where does it come from? Follow your nose and you will smell the wonderous moments of movie shots in Seoul. Even in my town a few dramas were taken scenery of. Thus, you are the Drama Queen, the Activity Actionman and other person.

Even though I am enjoying here in GLPS, it still can't beat my idea of you, Seoul, But only four days later and I can run into you, hug into you and rest with you for the rest of my life.

Sincerely, Sally.

Hey! Want to try a hard twister?

This time my Wacky Web Tale is about Toungue Twisters. It's very short but I have two: one for the 'S' twister, the other the'H' twister. So every big mouth on the blog, come on! Let's compete who's the big mouth on the blog! Though this might not be easy~~

Say each one ten times fast!

The S Twister

A sore snake slithered sometimes on the sand.

The H Twister

The happy, heroic hippo hugged with a huge, hairy hand.

Did you say it ten times? Then do it faster. Done? Do it two times more faster.
Done?
Now do ten times more faster.
I'm just joking. Even I can't say that five times in a row.
Then why did I asked you guys to try it?
Because it's fun

ps) Just kidding~~

My Wacky Webtale: Summer Camp

I did this Wacky Webtale for today. It's not so funny but it is cool I think.
Enjoy my wacky webtale and if you want to make one, just click on here!

Dear Mom and Dad,
Camp is so large! The food here is really good, unlike that camp food Jason told me about. We get to eat spaghetti and chocolates every day of the week!
This week I get to try out all the activities and sports. We are canoeing in old water on Lake stupid clown. We also are learning how to dive off the wooden diving board! I tried archery and I wasn't very good—I hit a(n) iris by mistake. I'll practice and get better, though.
For Arts and Crafts, I made a clay pineapple, a(n) car out of macramé, and a shelf for Mom to put her babies on. I even learned about whittling. I made a(n) pen out of wood! Can you believe it?
I especially like all the friends I am meeting. Kids here come from all over the country, from as far away as Washington, DC and Seoul. I am sorry I have to leave soon. I sure am going to miss all the fun I've had here. Maybe I can go camping in the backyard when I get back and pretend that I'm still at camp. Do you think Spot will want to camp with me?
Love always,
Sally

Enjoyed my tale? If you didn't try to make yourself another one and upload it on your blog~~
I totally recommend it; it's awesomely funny and cool.^^

The Second History Presentation and an unsolved mystery of the first one

I am writing about the second history presentation. You might ask me, "Hey, where is the first one?" Well, that's the thing I want to ask. You see, my first history presentationg script is gone!!
Somebody mysteriously ripped off my script. So I am doing my second one at least.
Hello everyone. I am Sally and today I am presenting about "The Virgin and CHild with St. Anne".
First I am going to tell the simple information about this painting.
The Virgin and Child with St. Anne is an oil painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. Tin the picture there is St. Anne, her daughter the virgin Mary and the infant Jesus. This painting was commissioned as the high altarpiece for the Chuch of Santissima Annuziata in Florence, Italy and it's theme had long preoccupied Leonardo. It was finished in 1508 and it's demension is 168cm x 112cm. It is now located in Louvre, Paris.
Next I will talk about the history of this painting.
In 1498, Leonardo explored into incorporating these figures together by drawing the Burlington House Cartoon. A guardian at the Louvre discovered several sketches believed to have been made by Leonardo on the back of this painting. Infrared reflectography was used in this painting. What is reflectography anyways? It is a technique used by art historians to detect layers beneath the top surface of a painting and determine whether it is an original. It revealed a "7-by-4 inch drawing of a horse's head" which had a resemblence to sketches of horses that da Vinci had made previously before drawing "The Battle of Anghiari". Also revealed was a second sketch 6 1/2 inch-by-4 inch depiction of half a skull. A third sketch is showed the infant Jesus playing with a lamb, which sketch was very similar to that which is painted on the front side. The Louvre spokesperson said that the sketches were "very probably" made by Leonardo and that it was the first time that any drawing had been found on the "flipside of one of his works".
Now I will tell you about the hidden meanings and drawings of this picture.
Sigmund Freud who is an Austrian neurologist and psycotherapist found that if you turn the painting sideways, the Virgin's gorment reveals a vulture. He backed up his claim with the fact that Egyptiam heiroglyphs represent the mother as a vulture. THe Egyptians believed that there are no male vultures only female who are impregnented by the wind. Unfortunately for Freud, the word 'vulture' was a mistranslation by the German translator of the Codex. The bird that Leonardo imagined was actually a kite. Kite is a raptor with long wings and weak legs who spend a great deal of time soaring. More information about kite is that it mostly eats carrion but some eat live prey, too. They are birds of prey which, along with hawks and eagles, are from the Accitripitridae. Another theory proposed by Freud attemps to explain Leonardo's fondness of depicting the Virgin Mary with St. Anne. Leonardo, who was illegitimate, was raised by his blood mother initially before being 'adopted' by the wife of his father: Ser Piero. The idea of putting the Mother of God with her own mother was therefore particulary close to Leonardo's heart, because he had "two mothers" himself. It is worth noting that in both versions of the picture (the Louvre painting and the London Cartoon) it is hard to know the difference whether St. Anne is a full generation older than Virgin Mary.
Also I will tell you the character's features in this painting.
Most Leonardo's paintings are both pleasing and calm yet confusing when you look closer. In this picture, Jesus is shown grabbing a sacrificial lamb symbolising his passion while the Virgin tries to restrain him. So except for Jesus who is being up, all of them are sitting down. But from a closer view, the two generations are in a different position. Virgin Mary is actually sitting on St. Anne's lap. This is the most comming way to notice the difference between those two generation. Their facial expressions seem to be very similar but by visual, St. Anne is larger than the Virgin. But besides that it is hard to tell the diffenrence between the mother daughter because of lack of visual clues.
The Virgin Mary and Child with St. Anne isn't very well known and not as famous as Mona Lisa but it is counted as one of da Vinci's masterpieces. There aren't that many information about this painting therefore that much un-known. But da Vinci is very popular topic in the art histiorians so I hope that the painting will be well known and will reveal more and many secrets.
Thank you for listening to my presentation.

Do you think this presentation is good? I don't think so ㅠㅠ))

Diamante Poems 2) Girls and Boys

This time I am writing a diamante poem. This is my second one and I hope I improved from my last one. Nothing much, but it's the best I can do~~
My topic is Girls and Boys.
♥♡
Girls
creative, smart
imagining, chatting, giggling
leader, thinker, joker, gamer
laughing, running, playing
positive, curious
Boys
★☆
I know.. This poem was a little bit too much good side for the girls. But I am a girl and there is no way stopping from me being a girl! Also I tried my best to write the good side of the boys. They are often positive and curious (sometimes too nosy) and mostly they are running, laughing around while they are playing. They joke a lot so I wrote a thing about joker and some quite love games so I put in gamer, too. On the other hand, girls are very creative and smart. They like to imagine things while they chat and giggle. They aren't much of a joker like the boys but they are more of a thinker and a leader. By this poem, I thinkg I knew more things about the good and bad things of boys and girls.

Diamante Poems (Happy and Sad)

Hello everyone~~
Today I am doing a Diamante Poem about Happy and Sad (or happiness and sadness)
It's my first diamante poem so I am not so good about it but enjoy my poem^^
^_^))**
Happiness
joyful, smiley
playing, resting, enjoying
winner, dream come true, loser, no success
crying, sulking, doing nothing
miserable, disappointed
Sadness
ㅠㅁㅠ
Everybody feels happy and sad. Because it happens all the time. It feels happy when I play with my freinds and enjoying the day. Also winning a game or a competition (tournament) makes me feel very happy. It makes me feel like a winner. However, being sad makes me feel like a loser who has no success at all. I just want to sit in a corner and cry, sulk, and doing nothing else. Even though happiness makes me joyful and smiley, sadness makes me miserable and disappointed. I hope I will have more happiness than sadness.
